Speaking candidly with the magazine, the 30-year-old actor discusses his wild antics that derailed him from his path as a leading man in Hollywood.

Recalling reactions to controversies like being arrested after a drunken disruption at Cabaret performance in 2014, LaBeouf says, “People I respected–dudes I wanted to work with–just looked me in the eyes and said, ‘Life’s too short for this sh-t.'”

Discussing his problem with drinking, LaBeouf reveals, “Part of it was posturing. I never knew how to drink. I never liked to drink, but I knew you had to drink. It was a weird post-modern fascination with the f–k-ups. When I met Robert Downey Jr., I was like, ‘Man, you got all this f–king texture. How do I do this? How do I build texture?'”

LaBeouf also confides how he felt when it came to working with Steven Spielberg on films that included Distrubia, Transformers, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He expresses, “I grew up with this idea, if you got to Spielberg, that’s where it is.” LaBeouf explains that it wasn’t about fame or money. He adds, “You get there, and you realize you’re not meeting the Spielberg you dream of. You’re meeting a different Spielberg, who is in a different stage in his career. He’s less a director than he is a f–king company.”

LaBeouf continues, “Spielberg’s sets are very different. Everything has been so meticulously planned. You got to get this line out in 37 seconds. You do that for five years, you start to feel like not knowing what you’re doing for a living.” Read more on Variety.com.
