Approached by the Mapplethorpe Foundation for a collaboration, Raf Simons’ spring-summer 2017 collection provided the perfect opportunity. Presenting in Florence during Pitti Uomo, Simons unveiled a lineup that showcased famous Robert Mapplethorpe prints. Exploring the famed photographer’s archive, the collection features portraits, erotic imagery and still photography, often displayed on oversized tops. Continuing to push Simons’ signature aesthetic, halved sweater vests, long coats, voluminous knits, button-down shirts and slouchy tanks were paired with tapered trousers for a unified season’s look.
