Band of Outsiders designer Scott Sternberg cited Jacques Cousteau documentary Le Monde du Silence and Malibu in the seventies as inspiration for his spring collection. It’s great to have inspirations, but there is a disconnect when it comes to channeling that energy into making something useful, new and improved–better. By now, the Band of Outsiders formula has become apparent. Each season, Sternberg brings out well-tailored suiting, boat shoes and all the elements for the American prep scene. There is nothing wrong with that, but with no evolution, it’s stagnant and one note. Everything that needs to be said has been said. One can only hope that Band of Outsiders becomes one of those labels to experience that perfect curve ball that brings with it unexpectedness and a collection that is beyond refreshing.
