Philippines Young Designers Guild (YDG) member, Jerome Lorico showcased his spring/summer 2010 collection entitled “Parallelism” in a well-conceptualized runway show. From gathered chairs at the center of the runway, each model took their turn on the catwalk.

The inspiration is based from the idea of transformation, origin, and change. It talks about how things end up the way they are and explores the theory of the parallel universe where things have their exact opposite or pairs in another setting or time.”

Drawn to natural color hues for this collection, Jerome was inspired by a blending of elements from the desert and sea. “Since I want to focus [on] the concept of origins, I decided to capture the subtle and earthy tones of the desert contrasted with the deep and dark hues of the sea. [These] two places are different and yet related to each other. It is mysterious to find a shell in the middle of the desert and it is enigmatic to find dunes formation on the seabed.”

I am focusing [on] the trademark look of the 1800 gentlemen, where their ordinary everyday look [was] composed of trousers, [a] cotton top, leather shoes, and suspenders. One of my key pieces is a set based from this inspiration. Although it is a bit period, It [can] still be approached in a modern way by reinterpreting the cuts, the fabric, and even the overall style of the ensemble. Fusion [is a] dominant word in my collection since [several] materials [are] incorporated to present a solid concept. From soft to stiff fabrics, linen to denim, synthetic and natural materials, every piece [is] a crucial element to fully interpret my vision of summer.” – Jerome Lorico

  1. i think the over styling kills it. and the tailoring on some of the pieces isn’t finely executed. but props to young filipino designers being more experimental!

  3. Yeah, I’m not really thrilled of this collection. His last collection was better than this… It’s colorful and yes the tailor was bad and maybe the choice of fabric, it look stiff and just uncomfortable…the models were cute.

  6. Once again a confident collection, with sophisticated use of colour and elegant style lines! Bravo!
