In a classic comparison of the wealthy and less fortunate, Swedish label Red Collar Project takes the inspiration for their spring 2010 collection from Charles Dickens’ novel, Great Expectations. The classic is about Pip, an orphan that is raised by his abusive sister and her husband. Living with his sister, Pip lacks ambition, but when he is offered wealth from an anonymous benefactor on the basis that he leaves home for London at once, he does so. Once in London, he must adapt to a new lifestyle, learning how to act as a gentleman. With this transition between lifestyles in mind, the collection takes its visual cues from the idea of Pip as a slacker and then later a gentleman. The result is a great mix of youthful bright colors and fits contrasted against dapper layers of a more conservative nature.
