Siki Im’s spring 2010 debut is inspired by William Golding’s The Lord of the Flies. A former senior designer for both Karl Lagerfeld and Helmut Lang, Siki turned to a minimalist aesthetic for the foundation of his collection. Interestingly enough, Siki starts out with a basic silhouette that thrives off of structure, before breaking down into deconstructed pieces that rebel against the norm. Exposed thread finds its place among nonchalant shirting that is reminiscent of sleep apparel from an older time. Much like Golding’s characters, who left to their own devices reverted back to survivalist instincts with no thought for society’s rules, Siki’s collection offers the most creativity when indulging paths set against the norm, whether it is in the form of a skirt or in what appears to be unfinished.
