I’m a big fan of understated pieces with great details.  I’m loving the styling of the socks and the textured scrunch in the Local Firm’s jeans.

  1. Some of these pieces remind me of the Black Gold collection by Diesel. The grey and black hues and the loose fitted pieces. I read in a past entry about the leggings under shorts…I’m kind of iffy about that sort of look. I’ve always been against leggings on women, and now on men? I’ll have to try it one of these days.

  4. I wear leggings and my number one concern is that…for me, they look organic. Instead of is he wearing leggings, I use them as a compliment and component of layering, where you have to think about all my pieces.

If you want to test drive some cheap ones, you should pick up some from American Apparel.

  5. I would think you’d have to use it as a layering accent. A little punch to an understated outfit. I’ve been eyeing out those AA leggings, and I guess seeing it out on the runway is a little more encouragement to use them as daywear.

I have a love/hate relationship with leggings though, especially on girls (Lindsay Lohan, come on…can you believe she made a Leggings line, poor girl).

  8. Girls have ruined leggings, because for the majority, they refuse to take it as fact that leggings are not pants.

  9. First off I love your blog! I check it everyday now. I’ve been thinking about trying out the leggings thing but it’s pretty out there for me. How are you all making it work with out people pointing out that you’re wearing leggings. Granted I live in the South and fashion is non existent. Are you wearing them with shorts, shants, what????

  10. Thanks!

For leggings, I play a lot with layering and proportions.

If it is a cold day and I’m wearing a long coat I know I won’t be taking off for the most part, I wear leggings by themselves.

I’ve worn them a little over sized. I’ve worn them under over sized shorts. I’m worn them with extra long shirts where the proportion is exaggerated. I have worn them under shorts and scrunched them up where they hang 2-3 in below my shorts to act as a trim.

    Hope that helped!

  11. Definately helps! I’ll have to experiment a bit. How do those AA one’s fit? Should I order a size up for a baggy look ya think? Or just get true to size. How do you think they’d look with some HV dyken shorts scrunched up? Also does anyone online carry The Local Firm stuff?

  12. I probably would not pair the two together since the dyken shorts are already attention seeking with their dropped crotch. I would look for shorts made of a knit or wool.

The American Apparel leggings fit spot on. It depends on how comfortable you feel and what degree of wearable you are going for…tight or somewhat fitted. If possible, I would order them in 2 sizes and just keep the one that fits best.

I do not know of any TLF stockists, but usually small labels will take individual orders if you contact them. Their contact emails can be found on http://www.thelocalfirm.com/contact.html

  13. I’ll definately be on the look out for short better suited with leggings and in the meantime I’ll take your advice and order both. Thanks for the info!
