Tiger of Sweden mixes the ornate and minimal for its spring-summer 2017 collection. Inspired by architecture, the Swedish label recalls the story of the royal palace Kungliga Slottet. Constructed between 1700 and 1754, the landmark was originally designed by Nicodemus Tessin who tapped into the Baroque opulence of the recently complete Versailles. Long story short, King Karl XII found the designs to be garish, instead preferring Scandinavian restraint.

Mirroring Kungliga Slottet’s dramatic transformation from over the top to minimal, Tiger of Sweden’s new collection mixes the elements for engaging results. On the Baroque end of the spectrum, garden prints dress bomber jackets, windbreakers, suits and wide-cut trousers. Updating classic tailoring, long tunics serve as an element of modernity. Contrasting a flair for the regal, minimalism takes over as Tiger of Sweden turns out zip-up field vests, sheer sweaters, nylon shirt jackets and poplin shirts.
