The latest collection from Whyszeck looks towards the past for a creative direction. Taking inspiration from the artistic differences between Theo van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian, the concept of Neo-Plasticism creates the framework for the fall collection. Neo-Plasticism was rooted in the appeal of abstraction and saw a return to the importance of form and color. This meant the strict use of horizontals and verticals alongside black and white. Theo van Doesburg later redefined Neo-Plasticism as Elemantarism to incorporate the use of diagonals, “colorized with dissonant colors.” Whyszeck engages these theories in a modern context through the use of “Neo-plastic” knit patterns, attention to line detail, and respect to color. Motivated by van Doesburg’s “Counter-Composition XIII”, the collection incorporates variants of gray, black, and earth flushed tones for its color palette. The aforementioned elements combine to create a minimal, but smart collection suited for all aspects of the modern man’s life…
