The Sporty Regular–Celebrating ten years with Y-3, designer Yohji Yamamoto turned to streetwear for the inspiration of his latest collection. Less prep, more sport and boasting a nonchalant attitude of youth, silhouettes were cut large and colors focused. Whether it was a cheeky take on the suit with shorts and knee-high socks or baggy shapes playfully thrown together, Yamamoto’s latest outing felt familiar yet ultimately fresh. Pulled together in ensembles or considered individually, each piece of new lineup had a life of its own, with an accessible spirit that also managed to achieve an aspirational quality. Take for example, slouchy tops adorned with a graphic reinterpretation of the famous Adidas stripes or a zippered waistcoat. Also, venturing into tropical prints for relaxed relief, the spring/summer 2013 collection delivered in style and substance.
