Surfer Rule–Projections of a tropical illustration, bottles of Vita Coco water on the seating and a background track of monkey and nature noises created an atmospheric setting for the latest YMC collection. Inspired by early 1960s west coast surf culture and late 1980s casuals, the spring/summer 2013 collection featured a more laid-back look with relaxed silhouettes in silk rayon, coated linens and soft cottons. Unstructured tailoring in earthy neutrals and pastels conveyed a sense of easy dressing, with madras checks, vintage kimono prints and other patterns inspired by the natural world adorning every article of clothing in rich colours. Details such as hand embroidered floral motifs on white sweats and edges of short sleeve shirts gave a homespun feel while slouchy blazers and polos in green and dark red with white horizontal stripes lent a varsity look to the collection. A collection perfect for the care-free, easy-going traveller. / Words by Kenny Ho, Fashionisto London Fashion Editor.
